چکیده
Braneworld models of dark energy are examined in the light of observations of high redshift type Ia supernovae. Braneworld models admit several novel and even exotic possibilities which include: (i) The effective equation of state of dark energy can be more negative than in LCDM: w ≤ −1; (ii) A class of braneworld models can encounter a ‘quiescent’ future singularity at which the energy density and the Hubble parameter remain well behaved, but higher derivatives of the expansion factor ( .. a, ... a etc.) diverge when the future singularity is reached; (iii) The current acceleration of the universe is a transient feature in a class of models in which dark energy ‘disappears’ after a certain time, giving rise to a matter dominated universe in the future. Since horizons are absent in such a space-time, a braneworld model with transient acceleration might help reconcile current supernova-based observations of an accelerating universe with the demands of string/M-theory. A maximum likelihood analysis reveals that braneworld models satisfy the stringent demands imposed by high redshift supernovae and a large region in parameter space agrees marginally better with current observations than LCDM. For instance, models with w < −1 ( > −1) provide better agreement with data than LCDM for Ωm > ∼ 0.3 ( < ∼ 0.25).

A planetary system may undergo significant radial rearrangement during the early part of its lifetime. Planet migration can come about through interaction with the surrounding planetesimal disk and the gas disk—while the latter is still present—as well as through planet-planet interactions. We review the major proposed migration mechanisms in the context of the planet formation process, in our ...

We examine the prospects for using lead as a supernova-neutrino detector by considering the spectrum of electrons produced, and the number of oneand two-neutron events. We show that the electron energy spectrum from charged-current reactions can be used to extract information about the high-temperature component of the neutrino spectrum. Some degree of electron neutrino oscillation is expected ...

We study a model of the dark energy which exhibits a rapid change in its equation of state w(z), such as occurs in vacuum metamorphosis. We compare the model predictions with CMB, large scale structure and supernova data and show that a late-time transition is marginally preferred over standard ΛCDM.

Although the cosmic concordance cosmology is quite successfull in fitting data, fine tuning and coincidence problems apparently weaken it. We review several possibilities to ease its problems, by considering various kinds of dynamical Dark Energy and possibly its coupling to Dark Matter, trying to set observational limits on Dark Energy state equation and coupling.
